For all of us still living who had the privilege of hearing Dr Murdo MacDonald-Bayne’s lectures and of knowing him personally, this collection of his lectures will assuredly revive memories of our experiences.

Each of us, reacting differently to the inexplicable yet natural happenings which we witnessed when “Dr Mac” was frequently overshadowed, became participants, knowingly or unknowingly, in the activities of the Sanctuary of the Silent Healing Power – and we still are such participants.

Many a time would the author of I AM THE LIFE demonstrate to his students the “Infinite Spiritual Power” which was working through him, and many are they who can vouch for the benefit and healing received from that Power.

Yet throughout the years, Dr Mac constantly emphasized, remind us that, “This you can also do, yea, even greater things shall you do, if you will but believe,” thus urging us constantly to seek the truth within ourselves. How many times did he tell us neither to memorise nor to accept his words but to think and find, by our own activities, whether the truths he expounded were applicable to ourselves, for “Truth has no Path.”

To some of us Dr. Mac revealed that his teachings would be dormant for many years but would later spring back to life and spread throughout the world when people would then be ready for their message.

In publishing the present collection of lectures given in Pretoria , South Africa , from 1947 onwards, we do not presume to know whether such a revival will be initiated, but we do know that the world is more than ever crying out for higher knowledge and truth.

We also feel that Dr. Mac was behind the urge that drove us to seek contact with those who knew him and followed his lectures. This urge then led us to collect from many sources those lectures, and compile them into a series of books which, hopefully, will follow this present endeavour.

Through this work of love, we personally acquired the inner peace and knowledge we were seeking although, at the time that Dr Mac was feeding us such infinite nectar of Truth, we were neither ready for digesting it, nor for practicing that Presence.

When you have begun to ponder and absorb the message in these pages, you will acquire a greater knowledge and truer conception of the inner worlds surrounding you. The earth, the Cosmos and its creations will take on a newer and deeper meaning for you as the Spiritual significance is revealed to the inner sight, albeit it remains invisible to the outward vision of the majority.

How wonderful it is to know that out of Infinite Substance all form has been created. We are the instruments in and through which “Life” is manifested. With this spiritual understanding can anyone harbour hatred, or participate in war? Life is One. And what of our experiences? Our earthly experiences are essential for the expansion of our being. Our Consciousness, and therefore all events in our lives are stepping stones to be negotiated, and from each new position a wider vista unfolds before us. They are our Stairway to progress.

Now after thirty-odd years of studying these lectures and recalling the power Dr. Mac expressed through them, one can relive the hours we stood entranced by his logic and inner knowledge of the human body, as well as the human mind, as expressed in the teachings of the Christ.

We recall, too, with affection his dry, Scottish humour and the twinkle in his eye, and can still hear within us the hearty laughter of this Great Man we called Master, for he was full of life and enjoyed all its pleasures.

Highly spiritual as he was, he kept reminding us to keep our feet on the ground, even if our heads were in the clouds – to be in the world but not of it.

Simplicity and common sense are the hallmarks of all his works and we trust you will enjoy and benefit from these teachings, just as we have done throughout the years. As you study his words you will, consciously or unconsciously, become increasingly aware of “His Presence”, for this is the aim of all true seekers.

When I knew Dr. Mac he lived in Johannesburg where he gave classes in the Women's Club premises. Once a week he would come over to Pretoria where I lived, and give classes in the Women's Club premises every Tuesday night. He would consult people who needed healing, also on Tuesdays, at a private house in Hatfield behind the Hillcrest swimming pool in South Street. At the end of each Course, which would last a couple of weeks Dr Mac would have an Open Lecture where anyone interested was welcome. Once the new Course had started, his lectures were not open to the public.

He always used to tell us that we never chose him. He chose us. He was a Master of various Occult Sciences but the main one was Pranayama which meant he could control circumstances. Apparently he used to put his foot flat on the accelerator of his black Jaguar motor car when traveling between Pretoria and Johannesburg. There were never any obstacles in his way. It was never necessary to ask him a question. He knew exactly what everybody's problem was. At the beginning of each lecture he would give the answers to people's problems. One of his favourite sayings was “Take off the brakes and let God do the work”. At the beginning of each Lecture he would hand out typed notes on the subject that he was going to discuss. These cost 2/6d. At the end of each lecture he would stand at the door of the hall and shake hands with everybody as they went out. He always used to say that everything he was teaching us could be found in his various books.

On one occasion he was explaining how to draw spiritual energy and project it into the physical world. He then just stood there and demonstrated what he was saying and I found myself pushed way outside my body. I later discovered that this was because the spiritual energy was too great for me to stand and I had to keep my distance to prevent being overwhelmed.

On one occasion Dr. Mac gave us a slide show of what he had seen in Tibet through whom Jesus the Christ could speak. Later Jesus gave 14 lectures during his travels. In Tibet he was trained specifically to act as a medium through Dr Mac at the Women's Club in Johannesburg. These lectures were recorded, word for word, and can be read in the book "Divine Healing of Mind and Body. The Master Speaks Again". Dr. Mac told us that his books will become the Bible of the New Age and that South Africa will be the new
Spiritual Centre of the World. Tibet was the previous Spiritual Centre of the World."

It was, as it turned out my very good fortune to come across the works of Dr MacDonald Bayne, or Dr Mac as he is known affectionately by those who knew him and those, like me, who came across his valuable life's work.
I had been studying the metaphysical side of things for about 10 years before the good Dr popped into my life, quite unexpectedly and changed everything for me.

I was a member of one of the many 'spiritual' message board's at the time and a link was given to Dr Mac's website by one of the members. Most often I didn't bother too much about these links, as they all seemed to have the same kind of writings and articles on them. But this was different as I found out when I clicked on the link that was Lora Mendel's original Dr Macdonald Bayne website.

I started reading the bio of Dr Mac, and soon was intrigued by this Scottish gentleman and what he was saying. It was a while later that I downloaded his two books, Beyond the Himalayas and The Yoga of the Christ Consciousness. Previously I had bought from Lora' site, Divine Healing of Mind and Body, it was par excellence. I couldn’t put the book down, and so this superb introduction led to more of his books, I Am the Life, and others. What I learned from Dr Mac's books have made a lasting impression on me, and have answered many of the questions which puzzle us regarding the nature of God, and the laws pertaining to life. To expand for a moment. In September 2003 I was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in my bladder. I was to go into hospital for an operation to remove this tumor. I went in knowing it was not my body, and found I could detach myself, my emotions of fear which would normally rear their heads under such circumstances, but not this time, because I knew, that I was more than the body and as Dr Mac tells us, we are not the body but Spirit incarnate. Hence the operation went smoothly and all was well. Two years on the tumor has not returned and I just know that it won’t ever return, such is the power of Dr Mac's teachings and yes, I see him as my mentor, my teacher par excellence. Who could rightly ask for anything more!!
